Elmore County Commission Awards Bid for Courthouse Annex
Wetumpka, AL – During the July 25, 2016 Commission Business Meeting, the Elmore County Commission awarded the bid for the final component of the County's $38 million Blueprint 2020 Infrastructure Rehabilitation and Renewal Program that invested in county roads, bridges and buildings. The bid to expand the County's 1932 Courthouse was awarded to Construction One, Inc. of Montgomery.
The existing courthouse currently houses most of the administrative offices of county government. The number of employees working in the courthouse has grown significantly over the past 25 years with little additional office space. The annex will provide a more efficient workspace to effectively serve the growing citizen population of Elmore County while retaining the historic appearance of the existing building.
The 2-story courthouse annex project is an 11,450-SF addition to the existing Elmore County Courthouse. The project includes electrical work in existing building, elevator cab in new annex and matching limestone exterior with the total project valued at approximately $2,750,000. Funding for the project includes funds from the 2015 Bond Issue, the County’s Public Building Road & Bridge Fund, and a donation from the Poarch Band of the Creek Indians.
Commission Chairman, David Bowen stated, “This Commission has made difficult decisions to make this building a reality. The addition to the Elmore County Courthouse will create a safe and modern facility to provide services to the public for decades to come.”
The County Engineer’s Office is currently performing site work for the project. Construction One, Inc. is scheduled to begin work late this summer with an estimated completion date in late 2017.
