EMA/HS Preparedness Fair and Safety Saturday @ Lowe's 10 am - 2 pm
This Saturday, the Elmore County EMA/HS Department is joining Lowe’s in Wetumpka to promote National Preparedness Month (NPM), by sponsoring their second annual “Preparedness Fair and Safety Saturday” event September 25, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Lowe’s parking. As a 2010 NPM Coalition Partner, Elmore County is part of a nationwide effort, sponsored by the Ready Campaign and Citizen Corps, to increase public awareness about emergency preparedness.
The event offers exciting activities for children including meeting Rex, the national Ready Kids mascot, McGruff the Crime Dog and Sparky the firedog. Kids will also enjoy the fire trucks, police cars, ambulances and rescue boats on display during the event. Adults will appreciate interactive learning displays like how to use a fire extinguisher properly to put out a small fire using the P. A.S.S. method on our Bullex live-fire training machine.
Preparedness is everyone’s responsibility and participation in local training courses, builds a local team that is ready to help when Elmore County faces emergencies and disasters. Information on training opportunities that promote community preparedness such as First Aid/CPR/AED, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and Basic Storm Spotter courses will be available to attendees.
For those that cannot attend the “Preparedness Fair and Safety Saturday” activities, simple steps may be taken to prepare for emergencies. Get an emergency supply kit. Make a family emergency plan. Be informed about the types of hazards and emergencies that might happen in Elmore County and know how to respond to them.
