Alcohol Licenses


The Elmore County Commission welcomes your request for approval of an Alcohol Beverage License in our jurisdiction. The following procedures were approved by the Elmore County Commission on November 27, 2017 and must be followed in order to process your request:


A Pre-Application packet (Visit Licensing & Compliance of the ABC Board) must be obtained from and approved by the State ABC Board prior to bringing any documentation to the Elmore County Commission.


After the Pre-Application packet is approved by the ABC Board, a separate application will be provided to bring to the Elmore County Commission office located at 100 East Commerce St., Suite 200, Wetumpka (regular business hours: 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday). 


Applications must be received by noon Wednesday the week prior to the Commission Meeting. The application will be placed on the agenda for the next meeting of the Commission. Unless otherwise posted, the Commission typically meets the second and fourth Mondays of the month with the Work Session beginning at 5:00pm (with Business Meeting immediately following) in the downtown Courthouse.


At the Commission Meeting, a vote will be taken to determine whether to allow the applicant to advertise for a Public Hearing on the application. If the application is approved for a public hearing, the Commission Office will provide a legal notice by 10am the day after the Commission Meeting. The applicant must advertise the legal notice one week at his/her expense in the local newspaper closest to the physical location of the application site. The notice will also be posted on the County website (www.elmoreco.org) until after the public hearing takes place.


The Commission Office will also provide a poster to be clearly displayed in the window of the application site until after the public hearing has taken place.


The County Commission will hear any comments from any concerned citizen during the public hearing on the application.

Following the public hearing, the County Commission will take formal action.


If the application is approved, an approval letter will be issued by the Commission Office by 10am the day after the Commission Meeting. The letter provided needs to be submitted to the State ABC Board to obtain the license.

Sunday Sales of Alcohol Ordinance


The Ordinance allowing Sale of Alcoholic Beverages on Sundays was executed by the Elmore County Commission on July 24, 2017. The ordinance provides details to regulate the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays in Elmore County.

Resolution Authorizing Sale of Draft Beer or Keg Beer


Legislation allows the Elmore County Commission, by resolution, to authorize, regulate and permit the sale of draft beer or keg beer in any size container for on-premises and off-premises consumption by properly licensed retail licensees of the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board in the unincorporated areas of Elmore County and within the corporate limits of each municipality in the county.
