Bart Mercer took office as County Commissioner of District 4 on November 11, 2020. Commissioner Mercer was previously elected on November 14, 2018 and previously appointed by Governor Robert Bentley on December 26, 2016. He was elected as Chairman of the County Commission on October 24, 2022.


Chairman Mercer currently serves on the National Association of Counties' (NACo) newly-established Broadband Task Force. He is also a member of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama (ACCA) Legislative Committee. 


Bart is an active member of the community and has served as a board member of the Elmore Fire Department since 1998. He also serves on the Edgewood Academy Board of Trustees and the Alabama Manufactured Housing Association. Bart previously served on the Board of Directors of the Elmore County Economic Development Authority for 13 years and was serving his 4th year as the Chairman before being appointed to the Elmore County Commission. 


Chairman Mercer’s employment history includes over 30 years of business experience as the Vice-President of Jenilyn’s Creations, Inc. and President of Mercer Property Management, Inc . Bart is also a licensed home builder and landscaper. 


Bart is a graduate of Holtville High School and attended Auburn University Montgomery. Chairman Mercer is married to Lori Lemmond Mercer, and together they have two children, Katelyn and Owen. The Mercers are active members of Millbrook First United Methodist Church.
