The Elmore County Deputy Chief Engineer oversees day-to-day operations in the Public Works Department and the Environmental services in Elmore County.



Any citizen who has a problem request for maintenance on the county road system is encouraged to contact the Elmore County Public Works Department at (334) 567-1162.

The Public Works Department operating hours are Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.

After hours, non-emergency requests can be left on the department’s answering service. Emergency requests can be made by calling the Elmore County Sheriff's Dispatch at (334) 567-5441. The Dispatch Office forwards all requests or notifications to the Public Works Department’s on call personnel to address the problem.

Joshua McDougald started as an Assistant County Engineer with Elmore County in 2021and has been the Deputy Chief Engineer for Elmore County since January 2025. He began working in county government in 2011 and previously worked with Chambers, Lee, and Butler Counties prior to coming to Elmore County. Josh is a graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree and is a licensed professional engineer in Alabama.
